Are You Experiencing Pregnancy or Post-Pregnancy Depression or Anxiety?

Pregnancy Depression can affect both expectant and new mothers and many mothers who experience it prior to childbirth – will have it after childbirth as well so it is important to recognize it. An expectant or new mother may experience some if not all of the following symptoms:

Sluggishness, fatigue, exhaustion, feeling sad, worthless, hopeless, tense, anxious or 'on edge' the majority of the time.  Mood swings, emotional outbursts or unexplained crying along with irritability, anger, short temper or extremely argumentative. Sleep problems can accompany this state with either too much sleep, sleep at the wrong time, or in some cases insomnia. Women may experience changes in appetite, loss of concentration, memory problems or confusion. Feeling overwhelmed or thoughts of suicide and even being overprotective or overly concerned for the baby. An intense fear of harming the baby or yourself is often accompanied with this depression.

Post-pregnancy depression affects one in every eight women within the first year of childbirth, miscarriage or stillbirth. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms of Pregnancy or Post-pregnancy Depression – please don’t hesitate in setting up your free consultation with me today by calling (303) 683-4578. I specialize in both Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy Depression and Anxiety.

What are the Symptoms of Major Depression?

The onset of the first episode of major depression may not be obvious if it is gradual or mild. The symptoms of major depression characteristically represent a significant change from how a person functioned before the illness.

The Symptoms of Depression include:
  • Persistently sad or irritable mood
  • Pronounced changes in sleep, appetite and energy
  • Difficulty thinking, concentrating and remembering
  • Physical slowing or agitation
  • Lack of interest in or pleasure from activities that were once enjoyed
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, hopelessness and emptiness
  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
  • Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as Headaches, digestive disorders and chronic pain

(Taken from the National Alliance on Mental Illness)

When several of these symptoms of depressive illness occur at the same time, last longer than two weeks and interfere with ordinary functioning, professional treatment is needed. Call me today to see how we can work through it together. Phone: (303) 683-4578
